However, CD Projekt RED has continued to chip away at the various bugs and problems. Updates and patches continued to arrive, addressing community concerns and some of the bigger issues facing Cyberpunk 2077. However, the studio soon went quiet, leaving fans to wonder what was going on behind the scenes. Many speculated that CD Projekt RED was going to re-launch the game to celebrate the arrival of the long awaited next-gen versions.

Ultimately, that wasn’t the case as CD Projekt RED surprised fans with a livestream event showcasing Cyberpunk 2077’s massive 1.5 update. Not only did it fix a laundry list of issues and add new features, it also finally made the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions available to download. While Microsoft utilizes the Smart Delivery system for those upgrading, the PlayStation 5 version of Cyberpunk 2077 is a little more involved. Here’s everything that PS5 owners need to know, especially if they’re moving from the PS4 version.
How to Download The PS5 Version
First, make sure that the new 1.5 update for Cyberpunk 2077 has been downloaded and completed. It’s a massive update, around 50GB in total, so it may take some time to finish.
For players who already have the PS4 version of Cyberpunk 2077 on their console, navigate to the game icon from the game collection menu and select it. This should pull up the option to play game, though to the right of that is a tile that shows an option to download a free PS5 upgrade. Select that to confirm the free purchase from the PlayStation Store, then select the Free button to start the download. For users with the disk version of the game, it will need to be inserted in the console for the download to work.
Alternatively, players can select the three dot icon (ellipsis) next to the big Play Game button and select the PS5 version to start downloading it.
Unfortunately, the PS5 treats this as a separate application, so it will require the entire game to be downloaded again in full. Once finished, players will see two versions of Cyberpunk 2077, the old PS4 version and the new PS5 one.
How to Transfer the PS4 Save File
While having two versions of Cyberpunk 2077 certainly adds a bit of clutter to the home screen, there’s one last step players will need to take before removing the PS4 version. Back on the PS4 console, players will likely want to transfer their save to their new PS5 version. Thankfully, this save transfer process does not require PlayStation Plus like many other games.
PlayStation 4 players can select one of their saves to upload it to the Cloud through the PlayStation Plus icon. Select that, then go to Online Storage, then Saved Data in System Storage. Next, select the Upload to Online Storage option, which will likely have the PlayStation Plus yellow icon. Find Cyberpunk 2077 from the games list and pick the save file to upload. When booting up the PS5, you can then download the cloud save file to your PS5 console storage, which will make it available inside the game.
It’s worth noting that players who used Cyberpunk 2077 through backwards compatibility on the PS5, will not need to do this as the console will be able to detect and use any save files.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
