A different Vogue Challenge was popular on TikTok last year, which saw users lipsyncing to drag queen Naomi Smalls’ song “Legs,” which starts with the lyrics: “They tried to put me on the cover of Vogue, but my legs were too long.”
TikTok stars would sit on the shoulders of someone else, hidden under a dress, or would have someone lie behind them with their legs in the air, to imitate having abnormally long legs.
But to take part in the new trend, social media users only need some selfies and some basic editing skills to take part and put themselves on the cover of Vogue.
How to do the Vogue Challenge on TikTok
To take part in the Vogue Challenge on TikTok, first of all, select a few photos of yourself. It could be from a professional photoshoot or just your favorite selfies from Instagram. Either way, social media users are editing their photos to look more stylized and more befitting of a magazine cover.
Edit the Vogue logo onto your images using Photoshop or a photo editing app like PicsArt. Images of the Vogue logo with a transparent background can be found with a quick Google search.
The videos on TikTok are using an original sound by TikTok user Ismael el Cuhh, titled “i.i.i.i.i.il.” which is a sample of the song “Out West” by JACKBOYS & Travis Scott ft. Young Thug. You can find the song by searching for the Vogue Challenge, then, press the “Use this sound” button to use the sample in your Vogue Challenge video.
Upload a video of yourself as the intro to the TikTok before adding your Vogue magazine covers—the video should be around seven or eight seconds long for the photos to appear with the drop.
TikTok users are using this video to film themselves dancing to the song and introducing the challenge with captions on the screen, typically dressed casually and wearing little to no makeup before revealing their Vogue photos.
Another take on the trend features the same format and music as the Vogue magazine challenge but sees users post “paparazzi” photos of themselves instead of magazine covers. To take part in this trend instead, have someone take a few candid photos of you doing something natural like walking down the street, or pretend you don’t see the camera, and upload these to your TikTok.
If you don’t have a TikTok, you can skip the video editing and simply upload your photographs with the Vogue logo edited onto them on Twitter or Instagram and use the hashtag #VogueChallenge.
